Join us for an evening celebrating the wondrous American woodcock! American woodcocks conduct an incredible courtship display each February, and we’re gathering to watch this wonderful show. From 5–6pm we’ll have some outdoor bird-related activities for children and families to engage with, before we gather to watch and listen for the American woodcocks around 6pm. Believe it or not, the show will be over by 6:30pm!
This is a free program that requires registration. Register here.
Please come dressed for the weather (dress in layers!) and be prepared to take a short walk on uneven ground at dusk. We recommend bringing flashlights for the walk back to your car. While there is no set minimum child age for this program, please note that observing the American woodcocks is a largely auditory experience, with some hard-to-see visual elements, as we wait patiently for the birds to display. If you think your child can sit quietly for half an hour, please feel free to bring them! If not, this may not be the best program for them.
