Join us to learn more about the special exhibition Crafting Sanctuaries: Black Spaces of the Great Depression South with the curator Dr. Tamir Williams. Crafting Sanctuaries expands the popular visual memory of the Great Depression by highlighting rarely seen Farm Security Administration (FSA) images of rural Black Southerners and their spatial worlds during the 1930s and 1940s. Dr. Tamir Williams will present further on this history and the themes that drive the exhibition, followed by a panel discussion featuring NC State faculty members Dr. Ajamu Dillahunt-Holloway, Assistant Professor of African American History and Public History at; Dr. Nishani Frazier, Professor of History and Director of Public History; and North Carolina Poet Laureate Dr. Jaki Shelton Green. Together, they will share reflections and insights on the histories and stories highlighted throughout the exhibition. Crafting Sanctuaries is on view at the Gregg Museum from August 6, 2026 – January 16, 2027. This exhibition is organized by Art Bridges Foundation.
