Civil War History Hike

Join us for a 2-hour walking tour exploring the Dix Park’s rich Civil War history. Event Details As you walk through the park, learn about the Union troops who camped on the state hospital grounds in the final days of the American Civil War, Raleigh’s earthwork fortification that cut through the property, and the impacts of the war on the hospital and patients. The tour is led by Ernest Dollar, historian, author and Director of Museums for the City of Raleigh. Time: 10:00 am- 12:00pm Location: Meet at theChapel at Dix Park,1030 Richardson Drive Raleigh, NC 27603 Registration: Participationis limited, registration is required. REGISTRATION Know Before You Go Walking up hills, in grass and on uneven surfaces will be necessary. Dress for the weather . Closed-toe shoes are recommended. Restroom facilitiesare available in the Chapel along with drinking water,pleasebring a water bottle to fill. Temporary restrooms and water stations are available throughout the park. If there is inclement weather, the tour will be canceled and registered participants will be notified by email. Directions and Parking Via Western Boulevard: Enter at Hunt Drive or S. Boylan Avenue Via Lake Wheeler Road: Enter at Umstead Drive Follow Signs towards TheChapel Parking is located in thelots next to and in front of the Chapel. ADA parking is available. ADA parking spaces are available in all lots. Chapel Entrance: Ramp and ADA push button activated door is located to the left of the front of the building.
