Concert Bill Evans and Alan Munde, two legends of bluegrass banjo, are coming to Raleigh for an intimate PineCone concert and workshop at Transfer Co Food Hall. Seating for the concert and workshop is limited so purchasing advanced tickets is recommended. TICKETS: Concert Only: $20 (member); $25 (general public); Concert & Workshop Combo: $50 ABOUT THE CONCERT: Bill and Alan have worked up a richly varied set of tunes on banjos and guitars that will showcase the full range of the instruments. Bill tells us “…the evening will feature tunes from Alan Munde’s truly spectacular new project Excelsior along with my new recording Things are Simple. I’ll no doubt bring a couple of different instruments to create a variety of banjo sounds. We’re calling it the Two Banjos are Better Than One 2024 World Tour.” ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: Alan and Bill are team teaching a class for all levels that will explore bluegrass banjo playing from the basics to more advanced concepts and attempt to answer questions and address the concerns of the class. Topics can include Scruggs rolls and how they work in creating solos, melodic banjo, music theory, jam survival skills, standard bluegrass licks and what they do, hand positions and wearing picks, using the capo banjo set up and more. The interests of the class will direct our time and your questions are encouraged. This will be a hands-on bring-your-banjo-and-let’s-pick style of session and provides a rare opportunity to get to know to bluegrass banjo masters. ABOUT TICKETS: Tickets are on sale for the concert only or as a concert/workshop combo. There will be a dinner break between the workshop and concert when participants can sample some of the delicious food available from vendors in the Transfer Co Food Hall. ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Bill Evans and Alan Munde are both recipients of the prestigious Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in the Banjo. Alan won in 2021 and Bill won in 2022. Alan’s first recording was “Poor Richard’s Almanac” with Sam Bush and Wayne Stewart. He went on to be a part of Jimmy Martin’s Sunny Mountain Boys and later The Country Gazette. Bill grew up in Virginia but spent most of his career on the West Coast working as a teacher, composer, historian and performer. During his time in the California bluegrass scene he played with David Grisman, Peter Rowan, David Bromberg, Darol Anger and others. Both Alan and Bill are sought after teachers and clinicians at camps across the country. Bill says “…his greatest accomplishment has been to bring people together through the banjo.” SCHEDULE: 5:30 – 7:00 – WORKSHOP: Open to all level players 7:00 – 8:00 – Dinner Break 8:00 – 9:30 – CONCERT: Two Banjos are Better than One with Bill Evans and Alan Munde Add to calendar Google Calendar iCalendar Outlook 365 Outlook Live
