FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Kathryn Mueller | contact@wakeinterfaithimmigration.org People of Faith to Gather at NC State Capitol to Proclaim Dignity and Due Process for Immigrant Neighbors Interfaith community gathering on October 11 calls for decency and change in the treatment of immigrants RALEIGH, N.C. — An interfaith coalition will gather on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on the South Lawn of the North Carolina State Capitol in Raleigh for A Stand for Dignity: People of Faith Raising Voices for Immigrants, a community gathering of prayer, song, and shared witness calling for the dignity and due process that every person deserves. The event is free and open to the public. No registration is required, though attendees are encouraged to sign up at wakeinterfaithimmigration.org to receive updates by email. A Stand for Dignity is an event of the Wake Interfaith Immigration Network (WIIN), a nonprofit organization founded in April 2026 to stand with immigrant and refugee neighbors across Wake County. The gathering is not a protest but a public witness: an opportunity for people of many faiths to come together across traditions, proclaim a shared vision of unity over division, and point toward the concrete changes they believe are needed in the way the nation treats immigrant neighbors. “What is happening to our immigrant neighbors – people who are contributing members of our communities and without violent criminal records – is deeply disturbing,” says WIIN board member Ann Lassiter. “Families are being torn apart, due process is being denied, and fear is taking root. Our shared faith calls us to stand with our immigrant neighbors, speak out against injustice, and defend the dignity endowed upon them by our creator.” The program will feature interfaith prayer and song, along with speakers sharing perspectives on the immigrant experience and the call of faith. Attendees will leave with a range of concrete actions they can take – as individuals and as faith communities – to support immigrant neighbors and work toward lasting change. The event is designed to meet people where they are. “If you are concerned but feel overwhelmed, unsure where to start, or simply need to be in community with others who share your convictions,” says another WIIN board member, Erv Portman. “Come stand with us. This is two hours for the change we know we need.” Congregations planning to attend as a group are encouraged to reach out to Kathryn Mueller at contact@wakeinterfaithimmigration.org for resources to invite their communities. The Wake Interfaith Immigration Network brings together more than 300 individuals from over 60 churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, and other faith communities, united by a shared conviction that people of faith must respond with compassion, presence, and action. WIIN is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. More information is available on WIIN’s website at https://wakeinterfaithimmigration.org/a-stand-for-dignity.
