The Ivy Bookshop is thrilled to host Andrew Motion at Bird in Hand to celebrate his latest poetry collection, WADERS, released on February 26th from McSweeney’s! Motion will be joined by a founding editor of the McSweeney’s Poetry Series, Jesse Nathan. Nathan’s new book, EGGTOOTH, will also be featured.
Andrew Motion was the UK Poet Laureate from 1999 to 2009, and since 2015 has been Homewood Professor in the Arts at Johns Hopkins, where he works in the Writing Seminars. His most recent publications are New and Selected Poems 1977-2022 (Faber, 2003), The Penguin Book of Elegy (Penguin, 2023), which he co-edited with Stephen Regan, and Waders (McSweeney’s, 2024).
Jesse Nathan was raised in northern California and rural Kansas. He teaches literature at UC Berkeley, and he was a founding editor of the McSweeney’s Poetry Series. His poems have appeared in The New York Review of Books, The Paris Review, and The New Republic. This is his first book.
